This remarkable ensemble of fifteen of Vancouver’s leading wind instrumentalists will present a rarely heard Mozart wind symphony – the Gran’ Partita, K. 361 along with the glorious Dvorak Serenade for Winds, Op 44, and an early work for wind octet by Beethoven.

The ensemble includes oboes, clarinets, French horns, bassoons and two seldom-used basset horns; a couple of strings will also be included. Both Mozart and Dvorak added the double bass to their instrumentation, and Dvorak included a cello.

Featured players include clarinetist José Franch-Ballester, the newly appointed director of wind chamber music at UBC; distinguished oboe soloist Emma Ringrose, formerly principal player of the BBC Orchestra in London; and bassoonist Jesse Read, former head of music at UBC.

The entire production will be conducted by Leslie Dala who, as well as leding the John Avison Chamber Orchestra, is also associate conductor of Vancouver Opera and the Director of the Vancouver Bach Choir.
